When we used to live in the East coast, one of the Costco favorites for the kids was the store’s pre-marinated chicken wings. It was seasoned just right with the perfect among of flavor to appeal to kids and adults alike. But since we moved back to Cali, we just haven’t found those wings in any of the local warehouses.
So, I tried to figure out a way to create our own version but it kept falling short of expectations. Until one day a friend introduced me to a recipe that contained this one ingredient that was just magical in transforming the recipe. I wish I had saved that original link so I could share it here but alas I just committed a few of the ingredients to memory as I continued my experimentation with flavors.
The main ingredient for this recipe that absolutely should not be substituted with is the Tomato paste. Here’s why.
The citric flavor of tomatoes combined with it moisture helps bring out the flavors truly gives you a very distinct flavor. It also helps blend in all the spices while adding some of that nice red color to the chicken wings.
So, here we go with the full set of steps
Set the multi-cooker to sauté mode and add:
- 2-3 Tablespoons Oil
- 1/2 cup Diced onions
- 2 Tablespoons Ginger-Garlic paste (see recipe)
- Just a tiny sprinkle of Chilli Powder
- 1-2 Teaspoon Paprika
- 1 Teaspoon Salt (or more to taste)
- 3 Tablespoons Tomato Paste
Stir as needed until they are well blended and the onions are translucent.
If you don’t have a multi-cooker, just mix all the ingredients and the wings in a large ziplock bag to allow a good blending of flavors and even coating. Bake in oven instead.

Next add the wings and stir…
The sauce you get may not look like much but trust me there is enough to coat all of the wings. And you want stir well enough to fully coat them.

Time to bake them…
Finally, switch your cooker from the sauté to bake mode, set the temperature to 375F and bake time to 20 minutes to begin baking the wings. Because the cooker is pretty small it will heat up very quickly. So, set a time and check on your wings every 5-6 minutes stirring it each time you take a peek. Depending on different factors, you may need more or less time.
Enjoy!
Finally, when they are all done, the only thing left to do is to enjoy them.
Yum! Yum! Yum!
