The beginning…
A little while ago I was looking for some quick and easy projects to crochet and tumbled upon this thing called “soap saver bags”. I hadn’t heard of them before. So naturally, I was intrigued.
A quick google research showed that these were pretty common items in the world of specialized personal care with a number of practical uses for your everyday bath bar soap. So I decided to give it a try by finding a crochet pattern to make a few. They turned out pretty well.

The benefits…
So now all I had to do was to test them out and see if all that I read about them were true. And yes, yes, yes…I am now sold on adding this to my bath time essentials. Here’s how they are so helpful:
- They completely replace the need for washcloth.
- When used to store soap after a bath or shower, I simply hang them up and all the liquid drains away and the soap dries up pretty well that I do not need to worry about soggy soaps anymore.
- I used 100% cotton yarn to make these bags and so they are gentler on my skin.
- I can customize them to any size I want depending on the soap.
- There is absolutely no more bar soap wastage. Gone are the days when I have to try and use as much of the old soap bar before beginning to use a new one. I can now just stick the new bar into the bag with the leftover skinny piece of old soap.
- Re-use is very easy. After a few uses, I just put the soap in another bag and wash the used one with my regular laundry.
Here is the bag I was using earlier today…this one has tiny pieces of soap inside. It was when I was using it that it dawned on me that I should share this wonderful piece of discovery with others.

Here is a tiny saver bag I had made to use with a small sugar scrub bar that one of my friends had made me. It turned out pretty well to even keep the sugar scrub together because it was prone to falling apart.

Well, hope you found this little piece of information helpful if you are looking for ways to better your personal care while being eco-friendly.
