You may have already heard of this common household tip I am about to share with you but indulge me anyway.
The Not So Secret Ingredient
One of the most economical and yet highly effective household cleaner I have used over the years is this very simple DIY All Purpose Cleaner. All it requires is a spray bottle and Regular White Vinegar. I buy this huge 1.32 gallon bottle from Costco but you can literally pick it up at any store.

The How
All you have to do it take equal parts water and vinegar. I generally use my glass measuring cup, fill it with half cup water and then half cup vinegar and then pour it into a spray bottle.

Or sometimes you can get one of those spray bottles that have the halfway marking which you can use to fill it up to the half way mark with water and then the rest of it with vinegar.

The Why
Vinegar is one of the best natural disinfectants which packs in a lot of cleaning power. A little bit goes a long way.
It’s Uses
If it is not clear in the name, this is an All-Purpose cleaner. Which means you can use it for literally any sort of cleaning. Here are some of the common uses I find for it:
- Dusting: Just spray some of the cleaner on a rag and wipe off any surface that needs some help getting the dust off of it. For example, window sills, bookshelves.
- Surface cleaning: For cleaning dining table or your kitchen/bathroom countertops, just spray some of the cleaner on the surface and wipe with a sponge or rag. For more crusty hardened dirt or dried food, just spray some cleaner on, let it sit for a few minutes and then wipe it off.
- Window/door crevices: You know those really get to locations on your sliding windows or doors….you guessed it…spray some of this cleaner to get to those nooks and crannies where dust loves to hide. And then use an old toothbrush or old chopstick covered in a rag to help dry the area and get the dirt out.
- Cleaning Children’s Toys: This cleaner is much safer option to clean up children’s playing toys which probably may get put in the mouth of your child(ren). Just spray some on the toys with hard surfaces, let sit for awhile and wipe off with a clean cloth.
- Produce Surfaces: I don’t know about you, but I like to give a good cleaning to any produce before it is consumed by me or any of my loved ones. This cleaner is a great and safe option to spray on an apple or a cucumber or any piece of produce before rinsing and consuming it.
- Any place, anywhere: Well, I can keep going on and one but will not quite fully exhaust all the many uses for this wonderful cleaner. Basically you can use it at any place with a hard surface.
Ever since I discovered the cleaner, I have not purchased an all-purpose cleaner from the store. It satisfies all our cleaning needs adequately.
Final Tip: Maximizing the Uses
Here is my final tip for you on this topic.
While I have not spent much money on cleaners, I am always on the lookout to add to my spray bottle collection. I do not just have one spray bottle of this cleaner but quite a few scattered throughout the house for easy access and quick cleaning. One in each bathroom, one in the kitchen, another in the garage, one outdoors and I probably have a few more extras lying around.
Why?
This helps not just me but any of my family members to quickly access the cleaner to keep things clean as we go along. For example, if I am in the bathroom while brushing my teeth and notice the counter needing a little bit of cleaning, I can quickly reach out to the cleaner that is sitting nearby and wipe off that dirt within seconds.
So, how are you going to put your special cleaner to work?
